UPVC Windows Vs Normal Windows

Rating & reviews (0 reviews)
The question of the perfect window for a property or home often leads the buyer down a rabbit hole of choices. Buyers can choose from several window types, including:
  • Aluminum Windows
  • Wood Windows
  • PVC Windows
Each type of window brings with it advantages and disadvantages, all of which UPVC windows have attempted to correct. In this article, we will outline the advantages of UPVC windows and compare said advantages to the other window types available.

Material

UPVC windows are created from Unplasticized Polyvinyl Chloride, an inexpensive building material. The closest alternative to Unplasticized Polyvinyl Chloride is Polyvinyl Chloride used to make PVC windows. While the two materials are similar, UPVC is not only cheaper, but it has the added advantage of being more elastic due to the lack of additive found in its unplasticized state.
In contrast, UPVC windows bear a distinct separation from wood windows. The wood used to create these windows is capable of being extremely expensive when compared to UPVC. In addition, wood windows are subject to rotting, which can not only cause safety issues but will only pile on the expense when said windows require replacements. On the other hand, UPVC windows are impervious to rot, and while they do experience degradation, the process is slow, spanning up to 30 years or more.

Cost

One of the most significant differences between UPVC windows and other windows is the cost. In the case of aluminium windows, UPVC windows are much cheaper to obtain with prices that are less than half of the most affordable aluminium windows available. Installation of features such as a window sash can cost a buyer up to $3000 when using the aluminium window option. On the other hand, a UPVC window sash can be installed for $1200, less than half of the cost of an aluminium window.

In the case of wood windows, evaluators are quick to point out that while UPVC windows are clearly cheaper than the often used timber, timber windows add value to the home. While this is true, timber windows also require maintenance and replacement fees when they begin to rot that will likely eat through any potential benefit. The added fact that rotting makes the wood window a security risk as intruders may use their weak points to gain entrance to a house decreases any possible value they might have added.

Maintenance

Unlike the degrading wood windows and even the longer-lasting PVC windows, UPVC requires little maintenance to ensure it is functioning to the best of its ability. Regular cleaning and upkeep can not only ensure that the UPVC window continues to stun passersby, but it also has the added benefit of extending the window’s life span.

Conclusion

With low prices, low installation costs, and minimal required upkeep, it should be more than obvious why UPVC windows are taking the world by storm. However, the advantages listed are only a few that exist. To ensure the best purchase, buyers must research their options.
