Camping your way through WA is one of the easiest and most liberating experiences you could have, I mean who doesn’t want to kick back around a campfire and roast marshmallows?

Or, setting up the tent and spending a night under the stars and basking in all of nature's glory?

It’s a great way to disconnect from the technological world to unwind and relax —  no emails, no work calls, just you, the family, or some mates and mother nature.

Whether you’re new to the scene or are an experienced veteran, with over 2,900 known campsites in WA alone, there are infinite possibilities.

To help you choose your next 4WD adventure, we’ve come up with a list of the best 4WD accessible campgrounds to explore in WA.

 

Honeymoon Pool Campground, Wellington National Park


Located off the beaten track and along the banks of Collie river lies this little gem of a camping site that’s only 2 hours south of Perth. The campsite is easily accessible by 2WD with plenty of other campsites in the surrounding if you have a 4WD. Amongst the peppermint trees is easy access to a flowing river that is perfect for summer activities including kayaking, canoeing and swimming. If you’re visiting in winter, there’s plenty of bush trails to explore and marshmallows to be roasted in the campfire.

Waychinicup National Park


Waychinicup Inlet is a natural inlet off the coast approximately 70km northeast of Albany where a small river flows into the ocean. It’s a relatively small campsite so we don’t recommend parking next to camp. There is plenty of wildlife to observe including birds, big lizards, possums and snakes. Explore 4WD tracks along cheynes beach and around Waychinicup National Park, as well as drop in a line for some fishing.

Yeagarup Dunes & Leaning Marri Campground, Pemberton


For the more adventurous and well equipped campers, the Yeagarup dunes is a 4WD beach accessible camping spot like no other. A 30km stretch of sandy beach, pick a spot anywhere along this beautiful coastline and setup camp, preferably with a bit of protection such as a sand dune or along the inner rivers. Weather conditions can change swifty from season to season, with strong winds shaping dunes by the day. Enjoy salmon fishing, 4WD tracks, crossing the Warren River (for the experienced or well trained only) or exploring the trails near Yeagarup Lake. For those who are camping near Yeagarup Lake, you’ll want to head over to Leaning Marri Campground.

Lane Poole Reserve, Dwellingup


If you’re looking for an activity filled camping trip a little closer to home, approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes from Perth, Lane Poole Reserve will satisfy your hunger. Activities can include 4WD off road tracks, canoeing & kayaking, mountain biking, fishing, horse riding and bushwalking, your options are truly unlimited.

Dales Gorge Campground, Karijini National Park


Karijini National Park is one of WA’s most spectacular natural reserves that is filled with hidden lakes and gorges, colourful fauna and home to a multitude of species of wildlife. Surrounded by Dales Gorge, Circular Pool, Fortescue Falls and Fern Pool, Dales large camping area provides nature lovers with a paradise of bushwalking and swimming options. A 4WD isn’t necessary for this location, however, a 4WD is recommended.
